I’ve been trying to re-release these episodes at roughly the same time of year they originally aired, so the “this week in history” segments fall where they should. This week I’m making an exception. This one first aired in July of 2015, but there’s so much furor over the economy, domestic and international, that a discussion about what money is and where it came from seemed appropriate.
From the original show notes: “This week on The History Files, we sit down with economics writer Rand MacGreal to talk about the history of money, the Mississippi Bubble land speculation debacle, and Richard Cantillon, the 18th century father of economics. This session yielded so much good discussion that we're splitting it into two sections. Tune in next week for part two!”
