This episode originally aired in July of 2015. Recently I (NF) was able to view the Segesser Hide Paintings in person as I traveled through Santa Fe, New Mexico, and I must say they are impressive. First, they’re huge. Second, they’re extremely detailed and finely executed. Scanned images on the computer don’t do them justice. If you’re ever in Santa Fe, it’s worth the price of admission.
From the original show notes: This week on The History Files we begin a three-part series on the Spanish conquest of America and how these territories evolved into the present day Western US. Starting with early exploration by Ponce de Leon, who probably never really hunted for the Fountain of Youth, we get as far as 1840s Texas... which is as far as Santa Anna got.
