Western Martial Arts with Nathan Barnett

TheHistory Files Archives: episode 057

This episode aired in June of 2016. As per usual, disregard any proffered links at the top of the show. The photos below are from a class taught in Port Townsend, WA ca. 2016 at a “neo-victorian” type gathering put on by Mr. Barnett.

A typical cutlass class, with instructor Nathan Barnett (background L and inset R)

Original show notes: “It’s our first “live” edition of the show; a spirited discussion with Nathan Barnett, talking about the resurgence in Western Martial Arts, which it turns out has a lot to do with swords and fists. We recorded this episode in Port Townsend, WA at the 2016 Brass Screw Confederacy, an annual Steampunk festival that takes over the entire 19th century-era city.”
